First photographers, now designers. I sense a trending meme here.
Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, made all kinds of friends with her new Yahoo logo roll-out. She spent a long weekend with her design team, and the obligatory intern playing with Adobe Illustrator to get what she wanted. And it looked a lot like this:
“Round 489, and I think I got it. I really like, like really, the B beveled because it matches the playful, capricious O’s. This really is a story of O, with 9 degrees of tilt for the exclamation point, which I just learned is called a bang! Gosh! I totally got it, more than once, LOL. Now I’m gonna pour out some decaf latte in honor of this dude Herman Zapf, because he was in Zapf Comix a long time before I was born. I left in the Y because its vestigial, like an appendix.”
A design board I subscribe to had a lot of traffic on this one. Why was I beating a corpse? One, she’s not dead. Two, she took a flying, crapulent dump on the design profession. She’s deserving of every insult, jibe, and lampoon for her ego-driven stunt. She may be one of the 100 Wealthiest Humanoids On The Planet, but has proven she knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing.
